The Conejo Valley chapter of Mothers & More will host a public event at 7:30pm on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Westlake Village Civic Center, 31200 East Oak Crest Drive, Westlake Village. The topic will be “Wine on a Budget” with Guest Speaker Jeff Ketelhut – owner, viticulturist and winemaker at Los Robles Hills Winery. The discussion is free of charge and the general public is encouraged to attend.
In this informative talk, Jeff will help the audience first explore the different types of wines on the marketplace today, and how best to sift through the sometimes overwhelming number of varietals and choices available. Next, he will give tips on how to find the bargains as well as that special occasion wine. Jeff will also guide us through beginning and maintaining a small business in tough economic times, as he discusses how his commercial wine venture was born and realized.
Jeff started his wine making venture by planting grapevines on his backyard hillside in 2005, in Thousand Oaks, California. A student of viticulture and winemaking at U.C. Davis, he incorporates organic farming and winemaking techniques both learned in the classroom, and more importantly, in the classroom known as the vineyard. His first vintage in 2008 realized the dream he was striving for — making an ultra-premium wine with exceptional handling and care. This first handcrafted vintage saw Los Robles Hills taking home Silver and Bronze medals. Each subsequent vintage has also garnered medals. Due to Jeff’s hands-on nature both in the vineyard and in the winemaking process, Jeff brings a wealth of experience to share both with regard to the farming/winemaking end of the business, and also with respect to small business operation in today’s economy.
Mothers & More is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of mothers through support, education and advocacy. The organization addresses mothers’ needs as individuals and members of society, and promotes the value of all the work mothers do.
