VCGSRC to produce ‘Gondoliers’

Who is the king and who is the Gondolier?

Find out when Ventura County Gilbert & Sullivan Repertoire Co. presents Gilbert & Sullivan’s, “The Gondoliers,” September 23 to October 16 at the Theatre on the Hill, Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 W. Hillcrest Dr., Thousand Oaks.

The Palmieri brothers, Marco (Gary Saxer) and Giuseppi (Michael Freed), are 18th century gondoliers who choose, then marry, their brides, Gianetta (Frances Pillsbury and Molly Siskin) and Tessa (Robyn Saxer) only to find out that one of them is already married to Casilda.

Casilda (Tara McGrath) has just found out about this herself, when she arrives in Venice with her parents, the Duke of Plaza Toro (John Pillsbury), her mother, the Duchess (Tamarah Ashton), and the particular Drum, Luiz (Jeff Berg). Add to the mix Don Alhambra, the Grand Inquisitor, who is looking forward to finding, and interrogating, Inez (Carla Schiller), the foster mother of the Palmieri brothers, to find out which of them is the king, and you have a fun and very tuneful romp through the topsy turvy world of Gilbert & Sullivan.

Also featured in the show are Vivian Gibson, Wynsum Kearns, Katie Weibezahl, Ashley Baker and Terry Fishman.

Directed by Rebecca Pillsbury, with music direction by Zach Spencer and choreography by Jeff Wallach.

Champagne Gala opening night tickets: $25-$30; General tickets: $15-$23. Group rates available. Tickets available on-line at www.hillcrestarts.com or at the theater box office: 805-381-1246. For more information call: 805-491-6103.
