C.A.T.S. Summer Camps is offering a new half-day camp, Time Traveler Camp, that will allow youth ages 7-13 to experience what it was like to be a child in Colonial Times before and during the American Revolution.
Each day campers will play games, cook and sample foods, make crafts, sing songs, learn about manners and journal as if they were a child in the Colonial era. All participants will try on colonial clothing and have their picture taken which they will receive on the last day of camp.
During the week, campers will learn what it’s like to live in a world without TV, computers, cell phones or video games. When they arrive at camp each day they will experience slices of Colonial American life as they are transported back in time to 1607 – 1776 during the formation of the colonies into a “United” nation.
Young colonists will rotate to several stations each day as they cook up colonial foods such as apple crisps, cornbread and lemonade. The campers will play traditional games of Colonial children, and try their hands at various crafts such as stenciling, making and writing with quill and ink and more.
Other activities will include experiencing the Colonial classroom where they learn about manners, write in their journals each day, and learn songs from the era as well as learning more about our early American history and how and why America came to be its own country.
Time Traveler Camp will be offered in Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and Ventura, and is a fun way to experience and learn about the history of our country in a non-competitive setting. In future years C.A.T.S. Summer Camps plan to go back in time to explore other parts of history as well as travel forward and imagine what life may be like in the future!
