Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks will be hosting the 8th in her quarterly dinner

Supervisor Linda Parks

series, this one, “The Pitfalls off the State Budget for Local Government, features a discussion about the impact of the State budget on local government with Los Angeles County Supervisor, Zev Yaroslavsky. Supervisor Yaroslavsky oversees a district in Los Angeles with a population that exceeds twice the population of Ventura County.

Bringing his perspective of the sweeping changes being considered by Governor Brown to deal with a State deficit of over $25 billion, Supervisor Yaroslavsky will focus on the potential pitfalls for local government.

Instead of the budgeting gimmicks of his predecessor, Brown is looking to solutions that by necessity come at a price–including eliminating redevelopment agencies, handing the control of State programs to local governments, and asking voters to extend tax increases. What is the likelihood he’ll succeed where others have failed, and what will the lay of the land look like if these changes take place?

The quarterly dinner meetings provide a forum for discussion on government policy and are open to the public by reservation. The February 16th dinner is $35 per person in advance and will be at Cigale Cafe in Oak Park.

It is anticipated to sell out so the public is encouraged to act soon if interested in attending. Please contact Supervisor Linda Parks or call (805) 37 73-2564 to see if there is still space available.
