The 11th annual Big Bear Lake International Film Festival announces that its opening night film will be “Alabama Moon” starring Clint Howard, who will be receiving the festival’s Acting Award of Excellence. The film also stars John Goodman, Jimmy Bennett, Colin Ford, Billy Unger and is directed by Tim McCanlies.
The film is based on a popular Children’s Book written by Watt Key that received national acclaim. “It’s very exciting to screen this family drama directed by McCanlies who wrote ‘Secondhand Lions’ which we screened as our opening night film in 2003,” said Monika Skerbelis, festival artistic & programming director. The story follows an 11-year-old boy raised in the Alabama wilderness as he learns how to make a home in the modern world after the unexpected death of his survivalist father.
“Alabama Moon” will screen on Friday, September 17th after the honorary awards ceremony where Clint Howard will receive an Acting Award of Excellence. Clint’s career has spanned over 49 years with an impressive list of credits include over 100 films, five series and scores of television appearances.
Voice over artist Noel Blanc will receive the Community Appreciation Award for his continued support with the film festival and other community organizations. Noel is keeping alive the Looney Tunes characters created by his father, the late voice acting legend Mel Banc.
